Vietnamese Bride Traditions

In vietnamese marriage custom, the day of the wedding is considered the start of a new book in a couple’s career and is marked by many ceremonial rites. Some of them are based on egyptian beliefs and others are influenced by Confucian and Buddhist ideologies

For case, before the service, the couple’s household does visit the bride’s kids and beg for their permission to take the child away. The couple’s representatives will bring gifts in special boxes adorned with red cloth: hashish leaves and areca palm berry, cakes and jewels for the wife, as well as a fried pig to symbolize good fortune for the couple.

Customarily, prior- arranged marriages in Vietnam were common as they allowed families to share sources and protect their assets. Nowadays, this habit is n’t as widespread, however, arranged marriages still play an important role in Vietnamese culture. On the day of the wedding, the newlyweds will wear their ao dai ( traditional dresses for women ) and suits for men. They will also use matching equipment and a plant crown.

The most prominent event of the day is the Tea and Candle Ceremony, which is both a proper meet between two families as well as a way to honor the couples’ seniors vietnamese brides and ancestors. The newlyweds will serve Green Tea or Chrysanthemum Tea to their guests, starting with the oldest members of the family. They will then receive money and jewelry from the guests as a way to show their appreciation. The ceremony ends with the lighting of a Dragon and Phoenix candle to officially symbolise the fusion of families.
